About Lavin
Lavin is a small (pop. ca. 200) farming village in the Alps of the swiss cantone of Graubuenden. Lavin belongs to the Engadine - a part of the Swiss cantone of Graubuenden. The village is at 1432 meters above sea level. The area around Lavin is of an extraordinary beauty, and it offers many possibilities in hiking and climbing. A favourite mountain to climb is, for example, the Piz Linard (3410 meters above sea level). The Swiss National Park is not far away and a famous place to experience the animal wildlife of the Alps. About twenty kilometers away lies the city of Scuol, where you will find many possibilities for partaking in sports. Between Lavin and Scuol lies the "Snowpark Motta Naluns", a winter sport region with a total of 14 ski-lifts.
In the 12th century the village's name "Lawinis" appeared for the first time in documents. Some major events in the history of Lavin were the episodes of massacre and destruction during the "Dreissigjährige Krieg" in the 17th century. A big fire in 1869 destroyed major parts of the village. The rebuilding determines the architectonial appearance of the village today.
The climate in the Engadine is mild, with clean, dry air and a lot of sunshine (relative sunlight continuity: 42-55%). Average temperatures vary between -6.5 degrees C in winter and 15 degrees C in summer. A restorative and hefty drop in temperature at night can always be counted on.
